South
West College (SWC) is the only Further Education College in Northern Ireland
(NI) that offers the unique opportunity to study the accredited IMI Level 2
Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance and is now open for
enrolment for September 2022.
The latest
figures provided by New Automotive and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and
Traders (SMMT) estimate that 252 Battery Electric Vehicles were registered in
NI in 2021, accounting for 9.66% of the market. This figure was up 41% from the
number registered during November 2020. With sales of Battery Electric Vehicles
and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles continuing to rise across the UK, it offers
tremendous career opportunities.
This
pioneering course is available to study part-time at the Dungannon campus and
aims to fill this skills gap. It is suitable for those interested in gaining
the knowledge to work safely when carrying out routine maintenance activities
on electric and hybrid vehicles.
The course,
which is at the forefront of the ever-evolving industry, has been designed for
those entering the automotive industry for the first time, as well as senior or
experienced people who may encounter electric or hybrid vehicles within a
routine maintenance situation.
It also
contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that
may have had damage to its high energy/electric system equipping learners with
in-demand practical skills to start their career or further their learning in
the growing area of electric and hybrid technologies.

Skills Focus Funding which aims to help local businesses upskill their staff.
