This Level 3 course will allow learners to develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the land-based machinery/engineering sector. It will allow you to service and repair agricultural tractors and machinery.
You will be able to inspect, test and diagnose faults in tractors and machinery. You will gain skills to meet and deal with customers in a professional manner, manage your own time and keep appropriate records.
All learners are expected to be qualified to Level 2 before commencing this advanced programme or have at least 3 years experience working as a mechanic in land-based machinery/engineering sector.
Assessment of practical skills and underpinning knowledge is a continuous process throughout the course. Assessment of learner competence will be based upon realistic work place situations, performing purposeful and recognisable tasks which will require a combination of skills and related knowledge.
Progression can be to a Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Automotive Diagnostic Techniques or a Level 5 Foundation Degree in an engineering discipline.
Learners will be employed in an agricultural garage and attend college one day per week. You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT at level 2 if you do not have a GCSE grade C in these subjects.
