The Turing Scheme

The Turing Scheme offers education providers the opportunity to apply for funding to support their students with study and work placements around the world. By participating in the Turing Scheme students will be given the opportunity to develop new skills, gain vital international experience and boost their employability skills.

Humber College, Toronto, Canada	Study Placements in Social Media: Developing Your Digital Marketing Skills	6	10th July – 1st August 2026	You want to stay ahead of digital marketing trends, gain experience developing digital content strategies for real-life clients and meet professionals working for leading social media platforms.
Humber College, Toronto, Canada	Study Placements in Optimizing High Performance Building Design	6	10th July – 1st August 2026	You are interested in gaining a global perspective on how high-performance building design and construction principles are contributing to a more sustainable and efficient built environment.

International Mobilities Schedule 2026

: Catering and Hospitality Students on an excursion during their placement in Iceland.

A work placement in the kitchens of Reykjavik’s top-class restaurants is a golden opportunity for culinary students to enhance skills, expand horizons, and grow both professionally and personally. Icelandic cuisine is renowned for its use of fresh, local ingredients like seafood, lamb, and dairy. Reykjavik boasts some of the finest chefs and restaurants in the world. Students will have the chance to learn from these culinary masters, gaining insights into innovative cooking techniques and modern gastronomy.
: Students from our Level 3 Travel and Tourism and Foundation Degree Higher Level Apprenticeship in Business on the Caribbean island of Aruba.

Students will experience a sample of the 5-star hospitality industry working across a range of departments in areas such as guest services, food and beverage operations, event support, marketing, housekeeping and front office within a leading global hospitality brand. Alongside these technical skills, students will enhance their key employability competencies including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity—skills vital for thriving in international work environments.
: The Humber Global Summer School is for curious and passionate students ready to take on a unique educational and social development programme in Toronto– one of the most multicultural cities in the world. South West College students, alongside students from around the world, will undertake a short-term course taught by experienced Humber College faculty staff and industry experts.

In addition to the expression of interest form, the student selection process may include additional stages. Students who are successful at the expression of interest stage will move to the next stage of the process. Additional stages may include CV submission (work placements only), interviews and obtaining feedback from Course Co-ordinators/curriculum teams on those student’s attendance, behaviour and ability to meet assignment/submission deadlines.

Am I eligible to take part?

: To be eligible for this year’s Turing work placement opportunities, students should be:

Currently registered as a student at SWC.
Studying a course relevant to the work placement you are applying for.
Either currently studying a FE Course (up to Level 3), Higher Level Apprenticeship or have completed an FE course at SWC in the 24/25 academic year (and a current student at the College on another programme).
18+ years of age at the time of travel.
Available to travel abroad on the dates specified for the placement you are applying for.
Able to meet the government entry requirements for travel to the destination you are expressing interest in: *(please visit UK Gov Travel Advice (UK citizens) or Irish Gov Travel Advice (Irish Citizens) for more information on entry requirements).

For immediate Iceland trip only - must have a valid in date passport with an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after end date of the trip.

Preference will be given to students who have not previously participated in a Turing Scheme placement

The Turing Scheme encourages the participation of learners from disadvantaged backgrounds and certain groups that are considered underrepresented in international placements. This information will be collected in your application and will also be used to support the assessment and selection process
: Study Placements

To be eligible for this year’s Turing study placement opportunities, students should be:

Currently registered as a student at SWC.

Studying a course relevant to the study placement you are applying for.

Either currently studying a FE Course (up to Level 3), Higher Level Apprenticeship or have completed an FE course at SWC in the 24/25 academic year (and a current student at the College on another programme).

19+ years of age at the time of travel.

Available to travel abroad on the dates specified for the study placement you are applying for.

Able to meet the government entry requirements for travel to the destination you are expressing interest in: *(please visit UK Gov Travel Advice (UK citizens) or Irish Gov Travel Advice (Irish Citizens) for more information on entry requirements).

Have a valid passport that meets the country’s rules on passport validity for your nationality or can provide evidence of passport application / renewal at the time of your application.

WORK & STUDY ABROAD THROUGH THE TURING SCHEME

Working & studying abroad through the Turing Scheme gives you the opportunity to make new friends, experience another culture and discover new ways of looking at your subject.

What does the programme include and costs?

SWC will administer the Turing funding on behalf of students, and it will be used to cover the following costs:

Course costs (study placements only)
Return flights and airport transfers
Insurances
Accommodation
Cultural or educational trips planned as part of the programme
Breakfast and lunches on course days (study placements only)

Students may receive a small contribution to help cover the general costs of living while they are abroad such as evening meals, local transport, and social activities. This is subject to the total of costs listed above and will vary depending on the destination.
