Funding Support for Students
This is a work-based automotive qualification that assesses the competence and knowledge that auto electrical technicians require to perform their job role effectively on vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots. This Vocational Competence Qualification (VCQ) is an integral part of the IMI SSC Auto Electrical and Mobile Electrical Installation Apprenticeship Framework. Therefore learners (normally aged 16-25) who are keen to build a career in the industry can take this VCQ as part of the Apprenticeship framework.
You will be able to remove, test and replace a series of electrical components from a range of vehicles. You will understand simple circuits and their components. You will understand how to create, store and distribute electricity in low and high voltage systems.
GCSE Maths at Grade D or above and GCSE English at Grade E or above.
The knowlege component of this qualification is independently assessed via online testing. The tests are mapped to each knowledge unit's learning outcomes and assessment criteria to ensure coverage. These tests are marked electronically by IMI.
Successful learners will progress to Level 3 Diploma in Auto Electrical and Mobile Electrical Apprenticeship NI and subsequently to Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Automotive Diagnostic Techniques.
Apprentices will be employed and attend college 2 days per week and employed for 3 days per week. Those not in paid employment will attend college on the traineeship programme 3 days per week and work-placement for a minimum of 1 day per week.
