Funding Support for Students
This course is a specialist, work-related qualification in Computing. It is a 1 year course consisting of 8 units. It is equivalent to 2 A Levels. Units are assessed either internally (5) or externally (3) and are both practical and theory based. This course will be taught through lectures, demonstrations, workshops and groupwork.
You will study the relationship between hardware and software, managing and communicating information and data and the principles of designing and developing digital technologies and processes to support organisations. The qualification also includes a choice of optional units covering areas such as data modelling and analytics, computer games development, mobile internet technologies, creative technologies, software testing and enterprise for IT. Students will use the College VLE (virtual learning environment) to access course materials and additional resources; this is also accessible from outside the College using the Internet.
4 Core Modules: Information Technology Systems; Creating Systems to Manage Information; Using Social Media in Business and Programming.
2 additional Modules fromthe following: Data Modelling and Website Development *These modules are subject to variation depending on local needs.
Four GCSEs grade C and above or equivalent, subject to interview. Any students who have not achieved a grade C in GCSE Maths or English will undertake Essential Skills in Numeracy and Literacy or GCSE Maths.
The qualification is both coursework and exam based.
Progression to Foundation Degree in Computing at South West College followed by progression to second year at University if desired criteria met. Possible employment opportunities include roles such as Administrator, Animator, IT Trainer / Teacher, Programmer, Technical Sales, Technical Support or Web Designer.
This one year course is equivalent to 2 A levels. *The fees quoted are payable for each year.
