Funding Support for Students
The Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship will provide learners with a range of technical skills and knowledge enabling them to either gain employment or progress into further training within the Manufacturing or Maintenance Engineering sector. Although learners are likely to have already completed a Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Engineering, they can progress directly into the Level 3 qualification.
The qualification includes mandatory and optional units, allowing learners to specialise in one of a number of engineering disciplines. Those available at South West College include Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, and Maintenance, Installation and Commissioning.
The following pathways are available on the Level 3 Apprenticeship Programme:
1. Maintenance Engineering
2. Fabrication and Welding
3. Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering
4. Technical Support
Essential Skills and Broader transferable skills to support working in an engineering environment.
All candidates will require a participating employer.
Candidates will usually require a related Level 2 qualification and Essential Skills Numeracy and Literacy at Level 1 or above.
Adult entrants will be considered if they have appropriate prior learning and experience.
Achievement of this qualification will be assessed via a combination of knowledge testing in the format of multiple choice questions under exam conditions and practical assessments. Practical assessments will be assessed on work based evidence and direct observation in the workplace.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or Level 2 Essential Skills in English, Maths and Information Technology. Optional units can be undertaken to support the pathway chosen and company/job requirements.
