This part-time course has been designed to meet the specific needs of the local engineering industry by providing a range of higher-level technical skills in the maintenance of a range of engineering systems.
The course is aimed at those working in the engineering industry and seeking an academic progression route whilst continuing to work. It is also designed for persons who want to formalise the skills already acquired in the industry or those wishing to re-skill.
Applications are welcome from those not currently in employment but with the expectation that they will obtain suitable employment before the course commences.
In addition to this, the course is also aimed at full-time students completing A-Levels, BTEC National Diplomas or Level 3 Apprenticeships who wish to continue their academic and professional career in Engineering while working in the local engineering sector.
This course provides a nationally recognised qualification offering career progression and professional development.
This course will provide students with the core knowledge, skills and techniques that all engineers require, irrespective of future specialism, to achieve high performance in the engineering profession.
In addition, Presentation, Interpersonal and Teamwork skills will all be developed throughout the duration of the course.
The 8 units delivered in this course provides a specialist work-related programme of study covering the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the manufacturing sector.
All units are compulsory.
Applicants must have 32 UCAS points to be eligible to enrol on the course, preferably from a L3 Engineering qualification.
GCSE English and Maths at grade C (or equivalent).
International students (for whom English is not their first language), must demonstrate their competence in written and spoken English at IELTS – Academic 6.0, with minimum 5.5 in all four elements of the test. Trinity ISE - Pass at Level 3 also meets this requirement for Tier 4 visa purposes.
Students who do not possess formal qualifications will be eligible to apply through APEL procedures for entry onto the course.
Students must be employed in a suitable engineering role at the start of this course.
Students will be assessed through practical and written assessments over a wide range of engineering disciplines.
Completion of this HNC will facilitate progression to higher-level roles within the candidate’s own place of work.
Progression routes from BTEC Level 4 Engineering within SWC include part-time and full-time Foundation Degrees and HLA’s (Higher Level Apprenticeships) in Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering.
