It is expected that learners have successfully gained the Level 2 qualification before progressing to Level 3 or have substantial industry experience in this field.

The course is assessed through a series of competence based assessments within College and the work place and end of unit tests

Achievement of this qualification will enable the learner to follow a career in Carpentry or Joinery. On completion students can progress onto Higher Education qualifications such as Level 4/5 Foundation Degree programmes.

You will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to interpret drawings, organise work, measure, mark out, cut and errect traditional roofs and prefabricated rood trusses, fil felt membranes and batons for roof tiles and slates, carry out 1st fix operations (before Plastering) i.e. fitting floor joists, laying flooring, erecting stud walls, fitting drylining and plasterboard, fitting doorframes etc. You will also learn how to carry out 2nd fix Operations (after plastering) i.e. hang doors & fit locks, fit architraves and skirting boards.
