If you have been using 3D CAD independently or have completed the level 1, then a higher qualification in Computer Aided Design (CAD) could be right for you. CAD modelling is used to manufacture new components/prototypes in a variety of areas including engineering, dental, food production and medical industries etc. Many new technologies are being utilised such as 3-D printing and additive manufacturing in a wide range of industries to produce functional products for consumer use. These technologies require the ability to take a design and create a 3-D computer based model. Such models can then be used via the 3-D printing machines to produce a prototype and/or real functional components.
The course provides the learner with the higher level skills in how to use 3D Computer Aided Design software. You will learn how an object is designed 3D and how objects could be manufactured thereafter.

This entry CAD course typically using SolidWorks 3-D design software is suitable for new learners with little or no prior CAD experience and will build up their 3-D modelling aptitude.
You are taught in a classroom environment through college based learning. At specific stages, you will complete practical assignments (3-D modelling class tests) and a Short Question test analysing computer and 3-D knowledge competence.
Level 1 Parametric modelling is a suitable entry route onto other design courses (i.e Level 2 and 3 Parametric modelling etc) and could also be used to obtain employment in a suitable area requiring 3-D design modelling capability (depending on your knowledge and prior industry experience).
These tasks are graded pass, merit or distinction and will be assessed by your assessor watching how you carry out the tasks and checking your final pieces of work.*The fees quoted are payable for each year.
