Overview

The main purpose of this qualification is to develop hair and beauty skills, techniques and knowledge which will prepare students to progress to the next level of vocational learning. All the units in this qualification directly prepare students for further study in the hair and beauty sector.

The course combines a large proportion of practical learning with relevant theory components. You will gain practical skills for the hair and beauty sector. The course will also give you knowledge on relevant health and safety, consultation and effective working practices at a basic level. These are all important to ensure you are ready to progress in the industry.

There are a number of additional modules which need to be undertaken to gain the full diploma. These units will be selected to best suit the route of employment for the full cohort of students. Examples of units which can be taken are, Skin Care, The Art of Photographic Make-up, Nail Art, Create a hair and beauty image, The Art of Dressing Hair or The Art of Colouring Hair.

  • Follow health and safety in the salon
  • Working for others
  • Presenting a Professional Image in a Salon

No formal qualifications required. Please ask for advice and guidance from individual Course Co-ordinators prior to application.

A combination of practical observations, online assessments and written tasks are used to assess this qualification.

This qualification will prepare you for further study at level 2 and you may choose to develop your skills in the specialist pathway of Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy.

The college will also enhance the learning experience of students throughout the year to gain additional qualifications, engage with Industry Experts and participate in workshops relevant to the industry.

Students also will have the opportunity to gain qualifications in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT if required.

Students will be required to purchase the following on commencement of the course:

  • Uniform approximate cost £50
  • Kit approximate cost £75
