South West College has provided local manufacturing company Keystone Lintels Ltd part of the Keystone Group, with training in 3D Design through the Skills Focus Programme funded by the Department for the Economy.
Keystone Lintels, founded in 1989, is a leading manufacturer of steel lintels. Keystone has a large professionally qualified team, operating from modern production facilities in Cookstown. Keystone is proud to set the standard in lintel design, production and delivery service.
With knowledge of their customers’ ever-changing needs, Keystone continually invests in specialist plant and equipment. Keystone also invests in professional training for employees to support and manage the business.
Speaking about the training, Keystone’s Technical Manager Jonathan Fee explains, "As a manufacturing company within the construction sector we are continually looking into different software packages to assist our technical team and to develop and improve our skill sets. Currently we use 2D Cad programmes within the technical department along with bespoke laser cutting software. We consulted with our design team and decided that it would be beneficial to investigate 3D modelling tools such as Solid Works to develop our design capabilities and increase efficiencies. After speaking with our Learning & Development team we identified an opportunity within our local college to attend a course focusing on 3D modelling software and we subsequently invited the college in to discuss the opportunity further. Our engineers were particularly keen to get involved and we had 13 employees putting themselves forward to attend. The college were able to facilitate our numbers and arranged classes specifically for our company. We all found the course very interesting and we were supported and guided throughout by a great lecturer. We have since used our new skills to create 3D templates for bespoke products which can be easily modified to suit customer requirements which increases efficiencies for our design team.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the college for accommodating the Keystone Group with the Skills Focus Programme which has led to those attending continuing onto the level 3 qualification”.
