The launch of the SkillBuildNI competition took place at the Technology and Skills Centre campus of South West College recently. The competition, which is held annually, pits the finest apprentices in Northern Ireland against each other. Trainees from 12 different trades contest against each other on the first step of their journey to the World Skills competition.
This is the first time since 2010 that South West College has had the privilege of hosting the event. This year’s event will be held on Friday the 4th of March and will feature students from all six of Northern Irelands Further Education colleges. The event provides the best apprentice tradespersons the opportunity to benchmark themselves against their peers from across Northern Ireland.
Maria Hackett, head of training at South West College is delighted that the event is being hosted at the Technology and Skills centre. “South West College is delighted to host the Skillbuild NI Finals. This competition is an excellent opportunity for apprentices throughout the region to display their talent and commitment to their individual trades. Close to 100 young apprentices will be competing on the day and I have no doubt that some of the finest apprentices in the world will be displaying their skills. Northern Ireland has always performed exceptionally well at the World Skills event, hopefully a future World Skill winner starts their road to success at this year’s regional event.
