Shane Mc Aloon from Fermanagh left school aged 16 and enrolled at South West College (SWC) to study a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering that helped nurture and develop his interest in Engineering.

This prestigious award is a recognition of the achievement and ambition of higher technicians in the civil engineering industry. It is open to all eligible students across the Northern Ireland Region of the ICE and applicants are required to complete a very comprehensive application form, focussing on academic achievement, industrial experience and most importantly career aspirations.

Hair and Beauty facilities at the South West College Erne Campus will allow local students to train in industry standard conditions when the building opens in September 2021. The last year has been a difficult one for the hair and beauty industry, but tutors at South West College believe the state-of-the-art facilities will help maintain a bright future for a career area which has progressed significantly in the last ten years.

The course will offer a progression opportunity for Level 3 students to continue their culinary education and offer professional chefs working in the catering and hospitality industry the opportunity to update their skills and prepare for future management positions.

Student Governor Clara Jane Whitley, from Monea, Derrygonnelly, has been passionate about the student voice at South West College ever since she first enrolled in 2018. Clara, who studies a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design in Enniskillen, first embarked on her journey in student representation by becoming a class representative in 2018, before eventually being nominated by her peers for the Student Governor position in October 2020.

South West College (SWC) have embarked on a three-year Erasmus+ KA2 project, entitled ‘21st Century Students’. Partners involved in the project alongside SWC include institutes in Greece, Romania, Croatia, Germany and the Basque region, and the project objective is to promote Digital Manufacturing and Design in Schools.
