19 year old South West College student Jordan Rochford is pictured with his recent accolades won on the stock car racing scene. Jordan, a motorsport enthusiast from a young age and a first year student on the Foundation Degree in Engineering (Industrial Electronics) at South West College, Dungannon Campus recently won the 2ke Engineering Challenge Series Grand Final at the Tullyroan Oval, followed by third place at the European Championships (Lightning Rods Class) held at the Tipperary Raceway in Cashel. Jordan said: “My love of motorsport runs in the family and it’s always something I have wanted to do! I am hoping that my knowledge and skills of building stock cars will come in handy when it comes to building the eco-car, which is part of the Foundation Degree at South West College. In second year I plan to focus on the automotive technology pathway and again I hope that my experience of working with stock cars will give me an edge!” As the stock car racing season comes to a close, Jordan has recently clinched the NI Points Championship for 2014.
Jordan’s course tutor, Dr Uel Little is collaborating with the University of Sheffield and the University of Ulster on an Advanced Engineering Tribology study to analyse and develop new innovative friction/lubrication solutions, which will provide technical guidance and support to ensure Jordan’s continued success going forward.
