South West College is delighted to announced that the Erne Campus which will open its doors to students and staff later this year has already received international acclaim for the innovative and sustainable design of the building. The Campus is shortlisted for the Favourite Building at the BREEAM 2021 awards and is the only building on the island of Ireland to be included on the shortlist.
The BREEAM Awards is an annual celebration that recognises the people, projects and organisations that are leading the way with significant achievements in sustainable building design, development and management. This year’s awards will be presented in an online ceremony taking place over the course of three days from Tuesday 23rd to Thursday 25th March 2021.
Erne Campus is competing with some of the most renowned and celebrated buildings across the world including ‘Centro Comercial Bonaire’ in Valencia, Spain, ‘Metropolis Mansion’ in Hangzhou, China and ‘Dudley House’ in London and to win this award would be a significant honour for both South West College and the dedicated team working on the Erne Campus project over the past number of years.
Reflecting on the award nomination, Erne Campus Project Sponsor, Eimear Grugan said;
“BREEAM certification appealed to South West College because it was an integral component informing the design process from its inception to completion. It informed the choice of site, the design and layout of the building, the lifecycle costs and the environment created for future users. This award nomination is a reflection of the hard work in bringing this project to life and it is an honour to be nominated alongside some of the world’s finest buildings.”
The public are invited to vote for their favourite building now at https://www.breeam.com/awards/vote/
