South West College hosted its fourth Early Years Conference as close to 160 early years providers and Primary School teachers attended the conference. The theme for this year’s conference was ‘Developing physical literacy skills in the Early Years’ Dr Alweena Awan, keynote speaker at the conference, spoke at length about the importance of exposing Children to play and movement. “It's simple! Children need movement to learn and the research into the SIMPLE programme showed that integrating reflexes enables children to access learning more easily and successfully. We need to address the underlying issues to help children.”
Camilla James, curriculum manager for childcare and early year development at South West College was delighted with the event. “It was a pleasure for South West College to be able to support, once again, the personal and professional development of Early Years practitioners and teachers in the South West region with this conference. We hope the message delivered and the workshops provided will inspire new ideas and provide very practical examples of how the curriculum delivery can be enhanced. This is just one example of how we engage with employers in the sector and this partnership approach has long-lasting benefits for the college, our students and the sector as a whole.”
