The Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies (CREST) at South West College has been shortlisted for the Sustainability Award at the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) Built Environment Awards 2017.
CABE, the leading association for professionals specialising in the design, construction, evaluation and maintenance of buildings developed the Sustainability Award in recognition of an organisation, individual or project that through invention, research, design, publicity, education, training and any other related activity, has made a significant contribution to sustainability in the construction sector.
The CREST Passive Pavilion, based in Enniskillen, is the first educational facility of its kind in the UK to be Passive House certified, BREEAM Excellent rated and Carbon neutral. CREST has also won Sustainable Building awards through Sustainable Ireland Magazine, Action Renewables, RICS, RSUA and Green Apple.
As an established hub for the development of smart and innovative technologies in emerging sustainability sectors, CREST delivers four specific aims of: providing quality technical assistance and support to SMEs; providing Research and Development facilities that inspire product innovation; fostering interaction from students and industry through access to high level demonstration and testing facilities; sharing best practice in renewable and sustainable technology innovation and learning across Europe.
Speaking about the nomination, Barry McCarron, CREST Co-ordinator said:
“We are delighted to be shortlisted for this year’s Sustainable Award with CABE. Our ethos at CREST is to create a sustainable technology research facility that can benefit others by showcasing the technologies that are integrated with an energy efficient building.
“The Centre’s combination of credentials, integrated with the appropriate renewable technology makes this project a shining example of sustainable development.”
The winners for this year’s CABE Built Environment Awards will be announced at the annual conference at Chesford Grange, Warwick on Wednesday 18th October.
