Amie McCay studied a Higher Level Apprenticeship Foundation Degree in Computing at South West College (SWC) and is now progressing in her career with Frylite Ltd.
Before enrolling at SWC, Amie, from Sion Mills, worked in the IT Department at Frylite Ltd. She decided to return to education in order to improve her IT skills and enhance her abilities. Aime said: “I wanted to study a degree in computing, and I decided that South West College was the best fit for me. SWC was highly recommended to me by people I know, and the course layout suited the work-study balance I needed. My experience at the College was excellent. I enjoyed learning new things and being able to take what I had learnt out of the classroom and into the office, most notably with regards to databases, web design and programming.”
Since studying at SWC, Amie has enjoyed significant career progression. She says: “my ambition was to progress in my professional IT role at Frylite into a more senior position, and I have succeeded. I’ve been able to take on more responsibility and have enjoyed an increased salary and job satisfaction. My future ambitions are to continue to drive improvements in the company’s IT systems. My plan is to keep improving my skills and abilities in Frylite to progress my career into a management position within the company.”
Amie is grateful for the role South West College has played in her career progression to date and says she would recommend it to other people in her position. She says, “South West College is a great place to learn and my time there was fantastic. The lecturers went above and beyond my expectations and the College has great facilities and modern equipment.”
