This BTEC in Art and Design Practice will guide you through the different specialties of Art and Design you may want to study in the future and will assist you in putting together a portfolio of work suitable for applying to Further and Higher Degree or Foundation courses of your choice.
This course is suitable for prospective students who have completed their GCSE or A'level Art and want to continue their studies in order to pursue a career in art and design. The two year qualification is equivalent to three A'levels. The advantage of this course is that students can explore different areas of art and design and do not need to study any unrelated subjects, providing they fulfil the entry requirements.
In year One, students will have Two major projects, and study Fine Art, Ceramics, Photography or Graphics and Sculpture. In year Two, students put together a portfolio of work for progression and explore interview techniques and practice presentation skills. Students choose their own specialist subject for the The Final Major Project, and using the theme provided, produce a series of outcomes which are displayed in an exhibition of student work, organised by the students.

The Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels, is a two-year, full-time course that meets entry requirements for learners who want to progress to higher education courses in art and design areas before entering employment. This qualification has been designed to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to further education, higher education and training or employment in the Art & Design industry. This programmes is designed for progression and to provide a substantial portfolio as an outcome of undertaking significant experimental explorations and projects that showcases learners’ skills and knowledge will prepare them for progression.

Reducing the number of units and assessments allows for largescale projects and provides a holistic learning experience for all. This enables a diagnostic process that balances development of skills with personal growth and intentions. The breadth of study in each qualification gives learners opportunities to consider their practice in the context of professional practice with work from inception of ideas to completion. The assessment enables learners to demonstrate valuable skills such as analysis, planning, organisation and critical thinking in the context of developing practical outcomes. Core technical skills development that covers all practices has been embedded throughout the programme.
