For entry onto this Level 2 Diploma it is recommended that learners have two C passes at GCSE or an equivalent qualification may be considered. Learners should have a strong desire to care for others. This programme requires an Enhanced Access NI check to be carried out.

This programme contains two externally assessed units, namely Human Lifespan Development and Healthy Living. Students will sit examinations in January of the year of study. Students have the opportunity to re-sit these assessments in June of the year of study, if required. The remaining units are internally assessed, which allows learners to develop a wider range of skills and provide evidence towards meeting the unit assessment criteria. Evidence for assessment is through portfolio work and can take the form of assignments, role play or presentations.

Studying the Level 2 Diploma can lead you onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. It is recommended that you have a minimum of a Merit qualification in your Level 2 programme to progress. Learners can also undertake a more vocational Level 2 programme under an apprenticeship scheme.

Students are also encouraged to undertake Essential Skills Literacy, Numeracy, and ICT if they do not possess these qualifications at GCSE Level. Learners will also study an additional programme to widen their knowledge and skills e.g a personal development or employability qualification.
