#WOW AT SOUTH WEST COLLEGE, WE LOVE TO SHOWCASE OUR TALENTED STAFF AND WHAT THEY GET UP TO AT AND AWAY FROM WORK. AS WE CONTINUE TO TEACH AND WORK REMOTELY, WE’RE DOING THIS BY ASKING THEM FIVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR ROLES AT SWC AND THERE PASSIONS AWAY FROM WORK. NEXT UP, IS DONAL MONOGHAN.

Tell us a bit about your role within South West College?

My role is actually quite a varied one. I am the Project Officer for FASTER which is an EU funded programme designed to encourage an increased usage of Electric Vehicles, cycling and public transportation. I am responsible for developing the marketing and communications strategy to promote the programme and the network of Rapid Charging points which will be installed across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland as part of the programme.

I am also the Sustainability Marketing Officer and this involves developing promotional messages and activities to support the increased awareness of South West College’s sustainability strategy.

How long have you worked at the college? What have you enjoyed most so far?

I joined South West College in mid-February, so I am still a new addition to the team. Due to the remote working requirements that are still in place I haven’t been able to meet any of my colleagues in person yet. In terms of what I enjoy most, so far it is definitely the diversity of the work – I work with a number of different teams in my role and on a number of projects, so no two days so far have been the same.

How have you found the working remotely experience?

Challenging! It has been a surreal experience starting a new job while working remotely. I have set up an office at home but I am really looking forward to getting to meet the team in person and working on campus when the restrictions are lifted. The systems that South West College has in place has really made working remotely much easier – I can access pretty much everything I need from home.

What passions do you have away from work?

I was a founding member of Borderline Players in 2000 and since then I have been involved in amateur drama and have worked with a number of groups taking roles both on stage and behind the scenes. Over the last few years I started going to the gym regularly – it has been a great way to de-stress and just improve my general physical health and mental well-being. I enjoy spending time with friends and family and I love travelling!

If you could host three famous people (living or dead) at a dinner party, who would they be and why?

I have always been a big Friends fan so I would have to include Jennifer Aniston. I have just finished watching Schitt’s Creek and Catherine O’Hara is incredible as Moira Rose and I think she would be a hugely entertaining dinner guest. Given the recent controversies, Piers Morgan would also be an interesting addition to the dinner table and if I could add a fourth, just to really have things kick off I would have to invite Meghan Markle. I was a fan of her character in Suits, but I think watching her and Piers face off would be quite something!

What are you currently watching or reading?

I have just finished watching Schitt’s Creek on Netflix – I really don’t know why it took me so long to start watching it. I finished the 6 seasons within a few weeks. I am currently enjoying the new series of Unforgotten and Falcon & the Winter Soldier – I definitely have some mixed tastes in tv shows.

Tell us something we don't know about you.

I was in New York on 9/11 – certainly wasn’t the trip I was expecting it to be!

Where is the first place you're going after lockdown?

This one is difficult as there are so many places that I want to go to, but I have family in London that I haven’t seen for two years now so I would have to visit them and then maybe a trip to Los Angeles for a Californian road trip.
