Overview

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise (Top-up) programme will focus on developing knowledge of the field (content), whilst providing students with opportunities to apply their learning in practical contexts (experience) and enhancing their learning through problem solving approaches (challenging and authentic tasks).

The learning approaches will take into account the diverse backgrounds of students, nurturing them through level six, whilst developing them into independent learners and critical divergent thinkers, ready for employment or postgraduate study (Inclusive environment, activities linked to student experience).

This programme aims to produce high quality graduates who wish to top up from a Foundation Degree or HND to a full BSc Honours Degree in Sport & Exercise in one year of full-time study.

  • Full Time: 1 Year - 2 Semesters

This programme is delivered face-to-face, with some virtual learning material.

At level 6 learners will undertake four compulsory 20 credit modules and one compulsory 40 credit module.

  • Athletic Development
  • Sport and Exercise Research Project

Foundation Degree, Diploma in Higher Education or a Higher National Diploma in a Sports-related subject, based on a 50% or above profile.

GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 4 (grade C) or above. (or equivalent, - for example, Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy Essential Skills qualifications are also accepted).

All applicants must have reached the age of 18 years on admission.

Suitable applicants will be invited for interview.

Course International Entry Requirements:

Full-time programme: International students must meet the general entrance requirements for admission to any College First Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma.

English Language Requirements:

Any applicant whose first language is not English should demonstrate their competence in written and spoken English. Usually, the minimum English language entry requirement is IELTS (academic) of 6.0 (with no band score of less than 5.5 in all four elements of the test).

We accept a wide range of alternative English language examinations and tests so please contact us for an updated list of other accepted tests.

To demonstrate achievement, students typically undertake assessment activities that include a series of tasks or assignments, reflecting typical practice in sector concerned. The assessment methods used provide opportunities for learning as well as assessment and these normally include essays, reports, presentations, case study, portfolio and video work.

Students who have completed the BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise (Top-up) programme may (if they meet the entry requirement for the institution & programme) progress to another institution to complete programmes such as Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Education, MSc Sports Coaching and Performance, MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology, MSc Sport and Exercise Nutrition, MSc Strength and Conditioning. Alternatively, students may move into employment.

Full-Time: £4,800 per year

Skills Focus funding may be available towards course fees for eligible employers to up skill staff or for self-employed students. Please ask for further details.

During your course you may be required to purchase course textbooks or specific software and incur additional costs for printing, photocopying and binding. The overall additional costs incurred to support your studies may be in the region of £100 or more per year.

Students are required to:

  • Comply with College Policies and procedures, rules and regulations (available in your Student Diary/Higher Education Handbook, on-line: www.swc.ac.uk and on the College VLE).
  • Submit all coursework and assessments by specified dates, coursework submitted without consent after the deadline shall not normally be accepted.
  • Pass all modules in each year of study to proceed to the next year of the programme*

*A minimum overall pass mark of 40% is required in all modules.
